Veryan Bay Reunion 2001
The Year 2001 reunion was held in the Adelphi Hotel
Liverpool during the long weekend of Friday May 25th to Monday
May 28th.
A varied list of events was ably organised by the
Veryan Bay Association committee which included
On Saturday morning the Annual General Meeting was
held, where reports were given by the Treasurer, Membership Secretary,
and Almoner.
Three members were reported as having died during
the year. Mike Magee's daughter Tracey was welcomed as an associate
member.
The Venue for the 2002 and 2003 reunions were discussed,
Chatham was initially suggested, but due to the high cost of accommodation
in the Kent area it was felt that another venue should be used.
Suggestions from the membership present were a) Babacombe Area
(Torbay), b) Glasgow, c) Scarborough. with the Babacombe coming
out as the prefered location for 2002 and Glasgow for 2003.
The Reunion secretary would make suitable enquiries.
The Web Master Graham Ledbrook demonstrated the Veryan
Bay Web Pages and their contents. A suggestion put forward was
that members contribute a little of what they did since leaving
the Veryan Bay, and to try and produce early photographs of themselves
for inclusion on the Web Pages.
At the conclusion of the AGM "Up Spirits"
and a buffet lunch was provided.

Saturday Evening there was the Annual shipmates dinner
followed by dancing for those still capable.

Sunday morning saw shipmates transported to the Pier
Head where we boarded the Mersey ferry for a 1 hour cruise, followed
by a coach trip through the Mersey Tunnel to Berkenhead and the
Historic Ships dock where HMS Plymouth was on show together with
the H.M.Submarine Onyx.
A buffet lunch was supplied and shipmates were given
the run of both HMS Plymouth and HM Sub Onyx.

Message from the Chairman John Miller
The reunion was one of the most successful ever with
the Adelphi Hotel staff treating reunion members with dignity
and generosity. Special thanks go to the Hotel Manager who had
particular family problems during the weekend, yet still managed
to treat the shipmates well.

Dear Graham
I would be very grateful if you would post this message on the
web site
I would like to thank all the members and wives who made me feel
so welcome at the reunion in Liverpool. It made me feel so much
closer to dad something that would not have been possible without
all of you, I really enjoyed hearing so many tales of his exploits
that I never knew before and I'm sure I will be smiling for months
if not years to come, and could someone please ask John Miller
to tell me the Titanic joke!!
Once again my heartfelt thanks to all of you. I know dad would
have appreciated the kindness you all showed me.
with deep regard
Tracey
